Dr. Altbaum

Robert A. Altbaum, M.D.

Dr. Altbaum decided he wanted to become a doctor when he was in high school. Focusing on internal medicine has allowed him to utilize his aptitude in science, satisfy his curiosity about how the body works and create rewarding long-term personal relationships. Medicine has provided him with the privilege of caring for the people of Fairfield County.

Growing up in the Bronx, he attended Bronx High School of Science and then New York University, from which he graduated junior Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Altbaum then attended Harvard Medical School. He stayed in Boston and completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and then moved to CT to spend one year of Ambulatory Chief Residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Although he became board certified in Geriatrics to enhance his skills in caring for the elderly, he has always preferred treating adult patients of all ages.

After his training, Dr. Altbaum joined Internal Medicine Associates of Westport, and has valued the years of building close relationships with his patients. He feels fortunate to have received a Castle Connolly Top Docs award for fifteen consecutive years.

When not using a stethoscope, he enjoys his family, good friends, tennis, hiking, going to the gym and playing keyboards in a local rock and roll band, DNR.
